Sriracha Candy Canes will spice up this year's holiday offerings in the candy aisle. The advertising line is: "Because Santa likes it Hot." And the makers encourage revelers to be bad little elves by slipping the fiery treat to "unsuspecting friends (and children) or enjoying after a tasty bento box." Somebody is getting coal in their stocking. But I do like their suggestion to crush the candy canes and served over ice cream or use them as as a spicy-sweet holiday cocktail stirrer.

In the late '80s, when Lee Jones and his family were in the throes of reinventing their Ohio farm after losing everything to a hailstorm and high interest rates, they fortuitously made the acquaintance of Charlie Trotter, who had just opened his restaurant in Chicago five hours away.

Nov 6th 2013, 12:38, by By Heather McPherson, Food Editor

The more the merrier in the Orlando Sentinel test kitchen! That’s why we have teamed with the fabulous folks over at Orlando’s WOMX Mix 105.1 to offer the morning show’s Recipe of the Week. Today's recipe is Brown Sugar Grilled Turkey Breast and Pea, Corn & Sweet Onion Salad. A brown sugar rub, spiked with smoky chilies and a kick of dry mustard, imparts gorgeous color and deep flavor to the skin during the slow grilling. Ask the butcher to split the whole turkey breast in half. You can use this same method to grill a whole (unstuffed) 8- to 12-pound turkey. It'll take 2 to 2 1/2 hours to cook.

Chicago culinary icon Charlie Trotter has been found dead in his home. Trotter missed a scheduled August appearance in Orlando for the 10th anniversary of Norman's restaurant at Orlando's Ritz-Carlton. The black-tie dinner hosted by Trotter's longtime friend chef Norman Van Aken included Jeremiah Tower, architect of modern California cuisine; Emeril Lagasse, celebrity chef, restaurateur and television personality; Dean Fearing, award-winning champion of Southwestern cuisine along with several local chefs.
